FRESH MEAT: BRINGING NEW LIFE TO AN OLD PLANT

Originally constructed in 1906 as the Neuhoff Brothers’ meatpacking plant, this historic industrial complex in Nashville operated for more than 70 years before closing its doors in 1977. After decades of vacancy and exposure to the elements, the facility exhibited deterioration typical of poorly maintained, old industrial structures.

Pivot Engineers was retained to conduct structural and corrosion assessments in support of a major redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing this iconic facility. During evaluation, our team documented existing conditions, identified areas of significant deterioration, and assessed the feasibility of rehabilitating the century-old structure.

The long-abandoned plant still contained remnants of its former operations, including meat-processing equipment and the original wrapping materials. These observations highlighted both the building’s history and the environmental conditions that contributed to its state.

Our findings informed recommendations for repair and adaptive reuse, supporting the transformation of this once-abandoned slaughterhouse into a vibrant mixed-use development. The Neuhoff District now provide new residential, commercial, and community spaces for generations to come.
